Battle no Jidai, Latin America Meets JPop

Battle no Jidai, is a J-Pop inspired vocal cover group from Santiago, Chile who recently approached Pure Idol Heart about promoting them. Seems word has reached Latin America that Pure Idol Heart is friendly to any JPop inspired cover group, regardless of nationality.

So what about Battle no Jidai you ask?

Battle no Jidai like I mentioned are from Santiago, Chile and their specialty is being a group that sings and dance in lives to J-Pop Idol songs.
Known as BnoJ, their primary mission is to spread the JPop Idol movement in Latin America .Accoding to their web site Battle no Jidai: are "Warriors of day, artists by night!"

The members are Maichan who member color is green and her charm point is her big smile. Rei –her member color is yellow and her charm point is her eyes and long eyelashes. Aiko – her member color is Blue, she has a Tsundere personality and lists her eyes and personality as her charm points.
The last member is Chibichan her member color is red, she likes to collect Pandas and list her charm point as adorable chachetitos and has magical powers to fight evil.

Battle no Jidai is an interesting group that puts their own style to the songs they sing, that you find yourself getting into even if you’re not from their home region.

Battle no Jidai goal for 2013 is to become a professional group and release their first CD ,something that I am sure their fans in Chile are looking forward to  and new international fans may want to see them accomplish.

Battle no Jidai is bringing the love of JPop idols to Latin America and hopes to greet many fans around the world on their journey to reach their dreams.

FLOWER: "SAKURA Regret" Full PV

FLOWER's second single, SAKURA Regret, is being released on the last day of this month, and now the full PV is streaming online!

Maaaan, if Still wasn't great enough, just look at this PV! The setting is so whimsical and magical, with the antique clocks being submerged in water which is scattered with Sakura. And when Reina - who looks GORGEOUS, by the way - walks up to that gigantic clock, the exposed gears just fit so well the branched out Sakura and the blue... Thing behind that. (Totally just ruined the moment right there -o-)
The fantastical world continues as they dance with ease and perfection in a room full of (Once again) Sakura in an elegant castle-like place wearing beautiful purple (FAVOURITE COLOUR! <3) outfits, each girl being situated in a room with its own unique flair, (including wings, a crescent moon, and a full moon) and moving in slow motion and reverse as the Sakura petals "fly" back up again. And if that doesn't put you in awe, the non-vocalists dance with grace in water! I mean, just the way the water splashes with each move they make is truly something!
And the song! It reminds me of a twist of traditional Japanese music during the instrumental, yet has a bit of a Spanish (I THINK Spanish is the right style...) aspect to it with the beautifully played guitar. Plus, Reina and Chiharu sing so beautifully, both in their solo lines and harmonizations. Even if the ballad style may seem repeated, taking into consideration that their debut single was also a ballad, this is just too good of a song AND too good of a PV to miss out on!

Music Feature: Supercell

Taking a break from j idols, today I'm going to cover a group I just recently got into: Supercell.

Supercell is composed of 11 members, and was started by Ryo, who writes all of the lyrics and music.

Supercell started out posting videos on Nico Nico Douga using Hatsune Miku, a voice synthesizing program that lets you use Miku's voice to produce music. I'm sure all of you have heard of Vocaloids, they are quite popular. The group eventually made their debut album in 2009 (under a record company) using Hatsune Miku. Their self titled album (Supercell) did extremely well on the charts. The very famous Vocaloid songs like Love is War, melt, and World is Mine were all written by Ryo and included on this album.

In 2009, the group had their first single: Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari. An actual human singer provided the vocals: Yanagi Nagi.

Supercell actually isn't a physical group where members are present in the PV or music video. The members do illustrations, music, support, etc. The people you see in the PV's are actors or are drawn and animated by the Supercell team.

The group continued to make more releases, using Nagi's vocals.

2010 Sakura Memories

2010 Utakata Hanabi /Hoshi ga Matataku Konna Yoru ni

2011 Today is a Beautiful Day There are too many songs on this album, so I'll just post a few.

Perfect Day

Feel So Good
 Hero

Owari he Mukau hajimari no Uta

LOVE & ROLL

Watashi e
 Yoru ga Akeru no

2011 My Dearest
My Dearest is Supercell's 4th single. Nagi no longer provides the vocals for Supercell. Instead, My Dearest is sung by Koeda (15). Another girl, Chelly (17) also provides the vocals for Supercell once Nagi left.

2011 Departures ~Anata ni Okuru Ai no Uta~ Sung by Chelly (I cannot find a non cover version of this song on youtube so this video is a cover, it is not chelly singing.)

When I heard Nagi was leaving, I was kind of upset. She has a beautiful voice. In 2012, she is making her debut single. But I think I will come to love Chelly and Koeda too. Chelly has a breathtaking voice, and Koeda's voice is very unique and it's nice to listen to it.

The group has 2 more singles planned in 2012.

BRIGHT

BRIGHT is a new addition to our site but not a new addition to the JPop genre .

BRIGHT has a long history dating back to 2001 as founding members NAGI,MI-MI and MEG made their pre-teen debut as Ko Spellers .The trio would later add NANAKA and BRIGHT was born in 2003.

From there they hit the long road to fame by working their way up from unsigned do it yourself Independents to a contract on Avex`s Independent sub label Rhythm Republic in 2007 , before pushing that into a major label debut with Rhythm Zone in 2008.

At first the unit didn`t chart well on Oricon coming in at #133 with their Major debut mini album “Brightest Star”. While the group started off slow in the charts ,the group has developed a small but loyal fan base and a great live show.

Personally I think that BRIGHT is one of the best of the limited sales groups out today .

If you’re looking for something fresh ,slide down a few steps on Oricon to the mid 30-40`s rankings and give BRIGHT a shot ,they may just surprise you.

Introducing Takei Emi

When I first heard that actress Takei Emi was going to make a solo music debut ,I immediately decided I wanted to check it out as her single was going to be written by TAKURO from the rock band GLAY a band that I have tremendous respect for .

Emi`s debut single is called “Koi Suru Kimochi” and it hit the stores on the 14th of this month.

Knowing that any member of GLAY was involved in this single ,that even without listening to it ,it was going to be top class and when I first heard it ,it was as I expected.
The video is a wonderland of beauty ,first Emi`s, then the storytelling and scenery.
The video has segments that reminds me of several videos ,with many scenes that stand out to me that it`s hard to choose one as a favorite .
There is these window close-ups that remind me of something in my life a real life scene that was a very similar setting. A reflection while standing on the cold snowy street looking at a window .For that I thank the director for bringing back my reflection.

Getting back to the video
There is also the moments of Emi walking on the lighted stairs and the forest ,carry equally heartfelt moments.
There is a connecting point when a balloon is released in a snow globe and appears in the sky ,along with Emi captured inside the globe. There is something I believe for every type of heart in this video from the loved to the traveling or about to be traveling heart .

I hate to say that this is my favorite song and video of 2011 ,it`s an equal fight with Gazette`s Pledge ,both videos remind me of special times in my life. So it`s hard to pick between the two.
This video and the Gazette`s Pledge tie for my favorite video and song of 2011 .

If you want to try something different than traditional idol JPop ,give this new artist a chance.

E-Girls : Celebration!

E-Girls : Celebration!

What do you get when you put the members of Dream, Happiness and FLOWER together ? A room full of the cutest ladies in JPop who collectively are known as E-Girls.

E-Girls has a new song coming out called Celebration! And Avex has decided to tempt the hearts of mankind with a short preview of beauty and talent . While this is only a teaser ,it is enough to wet your taste buds for what is to come next. If you follow these groups closely ,then one thing you will notice is that the groups are doing parts of their signature dances within the songs dance.
With the makeup ,costumes and camera shots the teaser creates an effect that makes the members of Happiness and FLOWER look older than they really are and blend in perfectly with their big sisters DREAM.

Really looking forward to the full release.

Tsunku And Indie Idols.

Tsunku And Indie Idols.

When Tsunku`s new TV show first aired ,I didn`t think much about it ,then episode two aired and it became clear that this show had two goals .1. Show the Possible in swimsuits every episode and make Afilia Saga East show regulars. 2. Promote the roof off the building with Indie idols, many who we have covered and many we will cover.

In these six weeks ,it`s becoming clear to me ,that Tsunku is going down the same path that many of us have before him and never left, and that is the Indies are a great branch of the genre to hang out in. There are no Oricon battles or agency jealousy in Indies, just groups from several companies that often perform together at the same lives.

Tsunku has a smile about him on TV that he doesn`t seem to have anymore around H!P TV it seems and he flat out adores Afilia Saga East [smart man ,adore the girls in charge of a food and drink cafe].

Say what you will about Tsunku and for me ,I am not a big fan of his H!P songs lately , he is doing something bold here and I respect him for that . He is giving the lesser-known Indies a chance to shine on a larger stage ,while keeping H!P almost completely out of the show ,so that the Indies have a fair chance to grow.

This show will help the genre in so many ways , no matter how long it may last , be it long or short ,the genre will be much healthier thanks to this show .

As long as Tsunku travels down my genre road of Indie Idols ,I`ll be there to support him and to watch .

The Indie Idols are a wonderful place ,while many will never give them a chance because they are not AkiP or H!P units ,I can say honestly it`s your loss if you don`t , because your missing something truly special by overlooking the Indies.

Don`t believe me ,see for yourself ,the last three weeks of Tsunku`s show and decide for yourself.

The following episodes have more Indie Idols then you can count on one show .
Ep 4

Ep 5

EP 6 [BiS and AeLL join the Idol army this week]

Note- anytime the sound cuts out ,it`s just broadcasting rights issues over that song being aired online.

Happiness: Friends PV

Happiness: Friends PV

Yesterday, I showed a short preview for Happiness upcoming single, “Friends“, today, I have the full version of the PV!

“Friends“, picks up from the point of their debut single , with strong dance performances that are not often seen from the more cutesy JPop releases that come from teen groups.

With stylish shots and group choreography, Happiness is developing into a very strong group under the guidance of Exile and looks set to set themselves apart from other groups in the years to come.

“Friends“, will be released on April 27th.

Kalafina: Magia PV + Intro

Kalafina: Magia PV + Intro

Kalafina is one of the expanding coverage groups that I have wanted to present for sometime. Kalafina are a vocal power trio that are in the contemporary classical /chamber pop genres and are the creation of famed composer/ producer/pianist and former member of the group See-Saw Kajiura Yuki.

Kajiura`s music is the framework that Kalafina is built on and draws from her fathers liking of opera and classical music.

After seeing great success as a member of See-Saw, Kajiura created a new project called FrictionJunction; it was out of this group that Kalafina would be born as Kajiura recruited FrictionJunction members Keiko and Wakana for what would become Kalafina.

The final lineup for Kalafina would not be set until May 2008 ,when Maya and Hikaru overcome 30,000 participants to join Keiko and Wakana to become Kalafina .Maya the youngest of all the members and the only one born in the 90`s left the group in 2009 to continue her career in a different setting.

Kalafina are currently supporting their newest single “Magia” which is the ending theme to the anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

While Kalafina in their current lineup is as strong as ever ,one of the songs that stands out to me and sets this group apart from others is one from when Maya was still a member “Sprinter” .The music and vocal arrangements is nothing short of perfect for this type of music.

And their most recent single before “Magia”, “Kagayaku Sora no Shijima ni wa”

To date Kalafina have released nine singles [eight have been used as a theme track] and two albums ,their most successful single in terms of sales was their debut “Oblivious” ,which was the theme song of the first three Kara no Kyoukai movies.

Kalafina are a bit of change for fans who have only listen to pop idols ,however if you value strong vocal harmonies or are a fan of up-tempo anime theme songs ,then Kalafina just maybe a group that you have heard before and never knew it.

Idol Groups That "Should Have Been"

Ever had a time when you thought "I love this group, wish they could have stayed around longer". Such thoughts are commonplace when you are into Japanese entertainment, where especially female idols acts are notoriously short. Only a handful of them that had their big break like AKB48, Morning Musume, Perfume, MAX etc get to enjoy a much longer life span. Here are my Top 5 groups that I think "should have been".

No. 5: Folder5 (2000-2002)
Believe it or not, these girls were actually a 2nd incarnation. They were formerly called "Folder" with 7 junior mixed members, with 2 boys leading and 5 girls dancing. Then the 2 boys were removed from the group and the remainding 5 girls formed "Folder5", which I feel have given the group a much better recognition than before. Folder5 debuted with their smash hit "Supergirl" and have since then been synonymous with Eurobeat and hit anime One Piece. Even collaborated with idol group w-inds as short-lived Earth Harmony. With so many commercials, games, anime and TV in their portfolio, it is still a wonder why they broke-up.

Supergirl

Believe (2nd OP to One Piece)

No. 4: PARADISE GO!! GO!! (2004 - 2006)
Born from the vocal and dance school "Caless" that have produced well known acts such as Hinoi Team and Shimizu Shota, PARADISE GO!! GO!! (also known as Parago for short) should have had a longer life span with their line-up of trained dancers and singers. Before their major debut with Avex, they performed in street lives about Kansai. Their first major single Koi no Undoukai (恋の運動会) is quite like what you would expect from a regular akibadol group. Then it was with their next single ZETTAI and the following Faraway, which I feel have given them with much more mainstream appeal with better vocals and complex dance formations. And just as we thought Parago could be a very promising pop act they were put on hiatus, later disbanded without any official notice, and just right after their one and only live tour. A shame, because personally I thought they could gone a little further. One of the lead vocals Matsumoto Misaki has since then moved on to form a duo "Love" as part of the main 3 acts under LDH, namely "Love", "dream" and "Happiness".

Faraway

Dear My Friend

No: 3 SweetS (2003 - 2006)
Another group that I wished have stuck around longer. Was crushed when I first hear about their disbanding. They were put together after passing the avex audition in 2002. They officially debuted the following year in 2003. At age range of 13-14 at debut, their solid vocals and dance skills betray their young age by far. Since then they have had a series of hits of which my personal favorites were "Love★Raspberry Juice" and "Love like candy floss". It was a treat to watch their growth from pre-teen to teens, as their appearances and vocal maturity changes from single to single.Their life span was but 3 years but they have done much better than Parago, with 11 singles under their belt.

Love raspberry juice

Love like candy floss

No: 2 EARTH (2000-2001, hiatus from 2002-2005)
To call EARTH an idol group, a female vocal group was probably a better description. After passing an audition in Kyushuu in 1999 they were vocally & dance trained in New York before debuting in 2000. Although they did win the 42nd Japan Records Award for Best New Artiste, their activity spanned only from 2000 to late 2001 and remained on hiatus before their official disbanding in 2005. EARTH's debut single "time after time" remained their best single ever, and with such good vocals it is hard to believe that they were between 12-13 years old at that time. Although EARTH started out with R&B genre, they moved on to mainstream pop in the following year but yet unable to garner enough attention. After the breakup, each of the girls have since started their own separate singing career. It was rumored that their musical differences was the cause of the eventual breakup. But I cannot help wonder "what if…?"

time after time

Make up your mind

No: 1 W (2004-2006, disbanded 2007)
With two of the most recognizable names and faces to graduate from the top idol group at the time Morning Musume, many were delighted to see the duo that formed W. They have every quality to be a successful idol group, and they have a gimmick for every single they released, a trait they borrowed from their Morning Musume days. Personally, I actually enjoyed their covers more than their original singles. And just about W was hitting its prime, trouble happened when one of the girls Kago Ai was caught smoking while being underage in 2006, and their activities have been put on hiatus. The following year, Kago was caught repeating the offence once again and W has been disbanded permanently. Coming from many years of singing and dance grooming within Morning Musume and being highly recognisable, W's break-up is in my list as one of the biggest let-downs, and tops this list as being the group that "should have been".

Happiness “Kiss Me” Major Debut PV

Happiness “Kiss Me” Major Debut PV

Do not let the look fool you, these girls are not as old as they look, in fact they are born in 95 or 96 making them 14 and 15-year-old girls. However, here is what sets them apart from other groups; they are under the watchful eye and guidance of Exile leader Hiro and his LDH Company. LDH by the way stands for "Love, Dream, and Happiness" representing three female units. Happiness by the way are signed to Universal J, the same label as the newest H!P soloist Kikkawa Yuu .

Happiness is made up of the following members ,who only go by one name : Sayaka ,Mimu , Mayu, Yurino , Kaede , Karen ,Miyuu .

“Kiss Me” which will be released on February 9 ,will mark a new journey for this somewhat new unit who recently served as backup dancers for Exile on their recent tour.

“Kiss Me” will come in the following type’s first edition limited CD + DVD, and CD regular forms. The limited edition CD will come with a special crystal ball Collaboration tote bag [a very popular item for women]. The limited edition CD + DVD version will come with the bonus track “Happy Talk,” their Mister Donuts CM song, and the music video for the title track. The CD regular will also come with the Mister Donuts theme.

“Kiss Me”has that feel of what you expect from the Avex type groups and not traditional cute idols  and in my deep dark secrets be told ,I am drawn to groups like SPEED ,Dream as sometimes I just need a break all the traditional pure cuteness .

Coming from that Exile, Avex type family tree ,it`s no surprise at how well these young women sing and dance for their age. If your not careful the presentation will having you saying they can`t be 15 year olds.

“Kiss Me” and Happiness is well worth taking the time to watch.

Dream: Down One Member

Dream: Down One Member

The last original member of Dream has announced that she is leaving the group. Tachibana Kana has decided to leave the group to seek out a solo career.

Kana has  released the following statement.

“Although my dream to be a singer has been come true, it’s not the goal. I have to keep learning to be who I really want to be, and I want to keep singing, but in order to do so, I need to grow up more, not as Kana of ‘Dream’, but as Kana. Therefore, I will challenge myself to pursue my way as a solo singer.”

With her leaving of the group, and any future replacement, Dream will have no original members.

Tachibana`s last day as a member, will be at the end of their current tour on December 4th.

DREAM Comeback Single + Tour

Veteran JPOP group DREAM are in the middle of a rebirth , the group who have faced 10 long and difficult years ,have been given a new life under the guidance of the members of EXILE and their management firm LDH.

On October 6 DREAM will release "Ev’rybody Alright!," the follow up to their "reboot" single "My Way -Ulala-" .

DREAM since it`s debut in 2000 has struggled and failed to gain the same popularity that Morning Musume and AKB48 have reached in their peak times. This very talented group has had to endure two name changes "DREAM to DRM back to DREAM",a number of lineup changes and the worries of breakup ,yet continue to fight on.

While DREAM has struggled to gain and hold mainstream popularity ,the last few years may have been the darkest they have had to endure.

2007 DREAM looked as if they were at their end ,they had dropped to doing small venue lives , free street performances ,anyplace that would let them play in front of.

In 2008 ,DREAM changed their name from DRM to DREAM once again and closed their fan club. With everything looking dark for the group ,they get a break from EXILE leader HIRO ,who took over the management of the group through [LDH (Love Dream Happiness)] from Avex.

Under LDH they immediately went inactive ,to reinvent themselves and would not return for until almost a year later. September 9,2009 DREAM released their first hard disk single since 2005 ,with "Perfect Girls / To The Top" ,which was sold at a nationwide free show tour . The CD did not chart on Oricon, due to how it was distributed .

On March 1, 2010 they released "Breakout" again sold only at a free tour , after completing the free tour ,DREAM held a mini three show paid tour Dream Live Tour 2010 ~Road to Dream~. ,followed by an opening slot on Exile's FANTASY Tour.

On August 18, 2010, DREAM released its major label return debut single, "My Way~ULala~" [#29 on Oricon with just under 5,000 in sales] and now on October 6 ,DREAM will complete their rebirth with a new single and live house tour.

If there is one group that deserves a break and fan support it`s DREAM, they have earned it. This tour and upcoming single release could be the turning point in their career.
